Start with the day, not the spec sheet
List the work you do most, the software you cannot avoid, and how often you carry the device. That makes a more useful filter than chasing a processor tier.
The screen and keyboard test
Look beyond resolution. Glare, panel size, keyboard travel, and the amount of room around the trackpad all shape a working day more than a benchmark chart.
Useful baseline
For a general-purpose machine, buy enough memory for browser-heavy work, check that charging is uncomplicated, and avoid paying for graphics power you will never use.
The long view
Check repair options, charger compatibility, update support, warranty terms, and how much storage you will realistically need in two years.
Keep this in mind
- Define the real use case before comparing features.
- Check total cost, updates, and support terms.
- Use the return window to test the details that matter.
